A challenging and vast mixed-used development on the outskirts of Beijing featuring high-density residential, cultural attractions, retail and a sales center, plus a myriad of entertainment and F&B venues for both local and regional visitors.
As a client, Sky Ocean is keen to differentiate their product and brand with better-designed environments, and invest greatly in the urban and landscape plan. This willingness to embrace something different allowed us to break away from the standard city grid formation and introduce meandering boulevards leading to a large central park that provides an urban living room for the residents and even indoor gardens for those cold winter months. The park will also play host to the Air and Space Museum, currently under construction.
Our biggest challenge lay in creating four distinctive residential districts despite using the same building footprint. By simply “wrapping” each neighborhood in a different texture they become instantly identifiable and offer the residents a unique setting to call home.

There’s magic and wonder brewing in Nayarit that might just bring about a revolution in entertainment. Already stunning, the high-end Vidanta resort in Nuevo Vallarta will double in capacity over the next three years. A world-class theme park, and an entertainment boardwalk featuring a major Cirque the Soleil attraction will anchor this new development. This new concept in family vacationing will fuse luxury with imagination, creating a fantastical world where adventures leap to life through immersive rides, attractions, and interactive performances. Highly thematic new resort hotels will surround and compliment the entertainment hub, so that every moment of the vacation experience is filled with magic and amazement.
Located on an island along the west bank of the Grand Canal near the prosperous Yangtze River, Yangzhou Golden Adventure Garden is a Themed Experience Center (TEC) that is just one part of a spectacular and transformative 21st-century entertainment resort.
The stylistic flowering design of the stunning structures celebrates the heritage of beautiful Yangzhou gardens, specifically recalling the versatile petals of a Chinese snowball bush. These architectural forms are seamlessly integrated into the island landscape in a way that complements, enhances and celebrates the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding region.
This place is a timeless gallery of the imagination. Rather than a series of static museum exhibits behind glass, the pavilions of this cultural campus are fully alive. Drawing on the rich storytelling traditions of the region, the experiences that await us throughout this cultural campus continuously twist our expectations and blur the line between the real world and our dreams through immersive adventures that inspire and delight.
DreamEast envisioned this very ambitious concept for a theme park, with a goal to celebrate the riches of Chinese cultural heritage in an immersive and entertaining way. We based the master plan on Chinese ancient coin- round with a square hole- soft and permeable on the outside, rigid and strong at its core.
Each land celebrates different concept- inventions, history, dreams, and mythology. A mountain with a castle serves as a backdrop for multiple attractions and environments. Carefully choreographed urban vignettes from different parts of China coexist with fantasy-style oversized scripts, lanterns and fans, in fanciful celebration of one of the World’s greatest cultures.
In collaboration with Legacy Entertainment (content, creative direction), Hetzel Design provided architectural design for a large entertainment campus consisting of 6 water park pavilions. Each of the pavilions projects its individual identity through unique contemporary design, featuring a retractable roof. The entry pavilion is flanked by RDE on both sides. The glazed tubular bridge connects all pavilions, providing for seamless and comfortable guest circulation in winter months.
A true eco resort nestled between a river delta and multiple lakes just minutes away from the ocean, the Garden of Senses celebrates nature and lives in harmony with local vegetation and bird habitats.
A small entertainment village is a dispatch center for numerous adventures: boat dinner tours on the lake, zip lines, biking, hiking, tractor trailer farm rides and an immersive nighttime “Lumina” experience!
The entertainment village was the first stage in a long metamorphosis of the Inspire Integrated Resort entertainment component. The entertainment village was designed as an integral part of the resort, all indoors, contemporary, and non-branded. While the overall master plan, architecture and the environments were exciting and well received, there were two major challenges with this conceit. All indoor concept has proven to be too expensive, and non-branded approach did not resonate with the market study. Naturally, the client has moved towards an open-air theme park campus approach, and a big brand name was chosen to generate the entertainment content of the development. Hetzel Design is in the schematic design phase of this new branded design, and looking forward to sharing it as soon as it becomes public knowledge.
