Mixed-use
5,766,052 sq.ft / 532,618 m2
This scheme falls under the SOHO incentive (small office/home office)- a Chinese version of promoting sustainable mixed-use developments. The linear retail of 2-3 levels flanks the main street linking the towers and providing human scale for visitors. Contemporary, angular blocks open up revealing small plazas stocked with cafes and restaurants.
We created a series of interlocking “L-shaped” blocks that defined retail avenues and small courtyards for al-fresco dining and street theater. A pedestrian street follows the surfaces of the façade leading the visitor in and out with ease. The ground floor is mainly all glass and is punctuated with glazed cubes above that provide “pop-out” graphic and video opportunities. We incorporated a spectrum of colored glazing to provide some relief for cold, grey days and give the scheme its own distinctive look.

These complexes will be built adjacent to large regional Evergrande theme parks, with a goal to reinforce them as major tourist destinations, provide more variety of dinning and retail options and encourage longer length of stay.

Mohegan Sun wanted a feature store at the main resort entrance. TESLA MOTORS seemed an obvious choice, given the brand’s gravitas and overall trend towards electric vehicles.
Besides the arrangement of vehicles that spells “SEXY”, everything else was left to us. We took design cues from the dynamic Tesla car features and turned them into interior design that flows outside to define a memorable marquee.

The Quin’an Shopping Mall and Retail District are important components of a larger city center master-plan designed by Hetzel. A gathering place with multitude of activates becomes a focal public space for the residents of Qian’an City, as it continues its transformation from an industrial city to a modern, diverse metropolis.
The shopping mall acts as a major anchor on the site, defining a prominent corner. The retail quarter curves around the shopping mall featuring a network of smaller streets and human scale environments for the visitor whilst ensuring maximum retail frontage for the developer.
The facades feature high tech billboards and graphic panels held within undulating metallic ribbons. The molten metal forms seemingly float above the development. Crisp glazed storefronts ensure excellent visibility and access to all units.

As cars and the motor industry itself becomes more sophisticated and competitive, companies are enhancing the factory and showroom experience by entertaining and immersing the consumer in the core brand values, and hopefully encouraging lifelong loyalty.
We were asked to develop a flagship store with strong visitor experience for Hyundai to be based at their factory in South Korea. Taking design cues from their test track wrapping its way around the new building, we created a pavilion using exterior and interior forms that are sinuous, graceful and flowing. Inside there is space for both real size concept cars and futuristic “infotainment” installations, including a hands-on tour of the adjacent factory and numerous interactives. Lighting projection and media shows all complete the experience and engage the visitor from concept cars to production line.
