This scheme falls under the SOHO incentive (small office/home office)- a Chinese version of promoting sustainable mixed-use developments. The linear retail of 2-3 levels flanks the main street linking the towers and providing human scale for visitors. Contemporary, angular blocks open up revealing small plazas stocked with cafes and restaurants.
We created a series of interlocking “L-shaped” blocks that defined retail avenues and small courtyards for al-fresco dining and street theater. A pedestrian street follows the surfaces of the façade leading the visitor in and out with ease. The ground floor is mainly all glass and is punctuated with glazed cubes above that provide “pop-out” graphic and video opportunities. We incorporated a spectrum of colored glazing to provide some relief for cold, grey days and give the scheme its own distinctive look.
